Scholarship Program
Over the past 7 years, the Soaring Eagles have awarded more than
$43,000 to local students to pursue higher education. In recent years,
we have narrowed our focus to those who are often overlooked by traditional
scholarship programs; those in alternative school programs, battered
women’s shelters, or those who find themselves “starting
over” through no fault of their own. We are inspired by the
courage and resilience of our recipients and count it an honor to
play a small part in their journey to self-sufficiency!
Some Quotes from Past recipients:
“I will be the first person in my family to graduate from high
school, much less go on to college …”
“…school was not very important to me – it was
a way to get out of the house. I always started out well, but then
started failing, skipping classes and getting in trouble at school.
By my sophomore year I was a high school dropout.”
“My experiences have helped me to become a stronger person.
This scholarship will assist me in reaching my goal of becoming a
registered nurse.”
“Thank you for your assistance in helping me go to college.
For many in high school, a decision to attend college or not is a
financial decision. As college tuition continues to rise, the service
your group provides our community is invaluable. Your sponsorship
is more than just a check; it’s an investment into the dreams
of our youth.”
Scholarships: ABWA Soaring Eagles awarded five last year - all to students in alternative situations. We gave:
$1500 - Valley High going to Palomar College
$1000 - Palomar going to CSUSM
$900 - Valley High going to Palomar College
$750 - Valley High going to Palomar
$700 - former drug addict attaining Addiction Counseling Certification (this one we are especially proud of - these funds fully funded the remainder of her program)
Our new scholarship chair is Pattie Vargas- a great lady with a lot of passion!
